Explora Journeys: Travelife for a more sustainable future

Explora Journeys, the luxury travel brand of the MSC Group, today announced its partnership with Travelife, the world’s leading training, management and certification program for sustainability in tourism.

Michael Angerer, CEO of Explora Journeys said: “Efforts to create more sustainable travel experiences for our guests is an important part of our vision to become a truly unique and desirable brand in luxury lifestyle travel.

Our deep respect for the oceans is at the heart of our journey, and out of a deep respect for local communities, our travel experiences are designed to leave a positive footprint.

In this context, we are committed to working towards building and maintaining mutual understanding and a firm commitment to sustainable tourism. I am very excited to partner with Travelife, which can help us, our tour operators and travel advisors to achieve our goal.”

Explora Journeys’ goal is to create strong awareness among its partners for effective sustainability planning, maximizing the social and economic benefits for the local populations visited by ships, promoting cultural heritage and minimizing the environmental impact of it.

Knout Kosters, General Manager, Travelife, added: “Travelife’s sustainability management system fits in perfectly with Explora Journeys’ efforts to create sustainable destination experiences. Destination management companies (DMCs), tour operators, and travel and port consultants are essential partners in implementing sustainability goals and are supported by training measures and incentives. We congratulate Explora Journeys for their efforts to promote sustainable business in general and to educate and motivate business partners accordingly. “

The partnership with Travelife allows all Explora Journeys tour operators and partner travel advisors to access the online Travelife platform free of charge to benefit from the many benefits of sustainable tourism. As part of the EU-funded SUSTOUR project, in-person training courses are also offered in European travel destinations.

These include a comprehensive learning platform with 16 on-demand modules on sustainability, including final exams and certification upon completion of each module; Activity checklists for trips that meet internationally recognized sustainability criteria; Practical reporting and action planning tools for effective implementation of sustainability practices as well as examples of best practices from the travel and tourism industry.

In September 2021, MSC Group’s cruise division reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to sustainability and pledged to have zero greenhouse gas emissions from cruises by 2050.

This target applies to both Explora cruises and MSC Cruises and exceeds the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO) target of reducing emissions from shipping by 50% by 2050 compared to 2008 levels.

The luxury brand’s sister company, MSC Cruises, has been a partner of Travelife since 2018. To learn more about Travelife, visit www.travelife.info.
