The mysterious Pokémon Arceus can be found not only in the game of the same name, but also in Perl / Diamond.
Pokémon Shining Diamond and Shining Pearl are receiving an update that also includes a special event. With the help of Azure Flute, you can not only take on (and fight) the mysterious Pokémon Arceus itself, but you can also take on Darkrai. But there is a catch: you also need Pokémon Legends: Arceus for this and you must have already completed it. This decision was not well received by many fans and they vented their anger.
Pokémon fans outraged by ‘€60 paywall ban’ for Arceus event
This is what it’s about: As with many other Pokémon games, you’ll get rewards in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl if you’ve already played other Pokémon titles on your Switch. However, this current special is an event that will be updated long after release and requires a newer game released after that, Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
How it works: If you want to play the Arceus and Darkrai event in Diamond/Pearl to get Darkrai and Arceus, you not only need to get National Pokédex and join the Diamond/Pearl Hall of Fame, you also need Legendary Pokémon: Arceus Save where you completed Already all the main functions.
Then in Shining Pearl / Radiant Diamond, you can get the Azure Flute in your room and take it to the spear shaft atop Mount Crater where Arceus will appear. Fight the powerful Legendary Pokémon and it’s yours. If you want to befriend Darkrai, you must receive a membership card as a ‘Secret Gift’. Then you can discover Darkrai on New Moon Island (via: Pokémon official website).
Fans Not Enjoyed: Many fans are outraged by this approach. Accordingly, they get upset on Twitter, Reddit and Co. Because they’re denied content if they don’t also buy another full-priced Pokemon game. There is currently no other way to get Arceus in Diamond/Pearl.
The worst part is the games were marketed towards different targets, so you weren’t supposed to buy both. But here we are, with Darkrai’s mission in PLA being locked if you haven’t a BDSP savefile and now Arceus’ event in BDSP only available if you have Arceus in the other game.

The approach isn’t all that new, just more specific this time around.
Not really, in the aforementioned cases trades are still an option and they were free and incentivized. In this specific case there is no alternative, you have to literally buy the game to acess Arceus. I remember borrowing my friend’s regis to get regigigas in gen 4 🙂
Of course, there are also many other voices to take pleasure in and I’ve already played through Arceus anyway.
After all the pain and frustration that Legends Arceus gave me, this save data bonus for BDSP is a nice reward.
I am annoyed about the complaints of the save data bonus from fans. They don’t have to get the game to get that one pokemon that has no influence on their game.
What distinguishes it? This special event featuring Azure Flute and Arceus is a part that was originally supposed to appear in the original Nintendo DS versions of Pearl and Diamond but was not shown to the public. However, data miners discovered the legacies and since then fans have been eagerly waiting for a comeback. This is happening now but under very limited circumstances.
They’re actually doing it…the lost event is finally happening!
But that’s not all the update brings. In addition, we can now also use the online exchange aka spell exchange in Pokémon Shining Diamond and Shining Pearl. If you have a paid Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you can exchange your Pokémon for someone else anywhere in the world.
What do you think of the limitations surrounding the Arceus event in Diamond/Pearl?
