Serie A is broadcasting a football match live on Metaverse for the first time. What do you expect the Football League from this project?

The pandemic has created virtual events: entire social meetings or trade fairs are held on online platforms or in virtual reality. The way we consume live sports could also change in the future. Italian football league Serie A showed how it was at the weekend and, according to its own data, broadcast its first game on the Metaverse. In this case, the league defines 3D browser-based avatar platforms “The Nemesis” (see below) as the metaverse.

Live sports as the next big thing in the Metaverse?

Mark Zuckerberg, on his Facebook renamed Meta site, provided many examples of what the future Metaverse could look like. Fantasy avatars meet on VR social platforms, play games together or go to virtual events together.

Virtual live concerts have been around for years. A recent example is the Foo Fighters’ immersive Meta Concert after this year’s Superbowl. Although this particularly failed due to technical shortcomings, it still showed a broad audience what immersive events in the future could look like with more attention to detail and improved technology. Serie A is now trying live football.

Serie A coach: Technological innovations are important for football

The match between leaders Milan and Fiorentina was broadcast. Two famous names and always a duel of prestige in Italy, even if you don’t come close to the really big duels between Milan Rossoneri and Juventus or Inter Milan.

For Luigi Di Siervo, President of Serie A, broadcasting in the Metaverse is an important step: “We decided to be the first to broadcast a football match in the Metaverse because we believe that technological innovation is very important for a modern league like Serie A. It is important.” You have to go where young people will move in the future.

Watch Serie A on the Metaverse for Africa and the Middle East only

However, this first test round was reserved for football fans from Africa and the Middle East. Strategically important areas for Italian football, according to de Servo. Generation Z dominates there and is particularly receptive to new developments. The first broadcast marks the beginning of a long-running collaboration between Chain A, blockchain, metaverse platforms ConsenSys, and The Nemesis.

While broadcasting, viewers in the Serie A room can play Serie A-related mini-games on The Nemesis, access the league’s social media channels or check out live stats. Serie A has given users a free Keep Racism Out t-shirt for their avatar.

What is the Nemesis metaverse?

Nemesis is a blockchain-based metaverse platform from Swiss UNDO Studios. Users can interact in a 360-degree virtual environment, which they explore using virtual reality glasses, smartphones or computers.

The different worlds on Nemesis are created by users. This should make the enemy grow faster. Currently, brands, influencers, investors or players are the main people in the Nemesis worlds. Payment is made in coins of 0.01 USD.

Nemesis offers a variety of planets that are unique in size and texture. On them are the so-called “lands”, which are the virtual base worlds of The Nemesis, which can be edited with a 3D editor. For more details on NFTs, tokens, and coins, see the Nemesis White Paper.
