In Lower Saxony, winter vacation is only school vacation. In other federal states, the motto is: Get out on the slopes. This is how short vacations work under Corona.

Hannover – Friday is the day of reckoning: in Lower Saxony and Bremen there are semi-annual student reports. To recharge the batteries, on Mondays and Tuesdays for free. Families can use this long weekend for a short trip to the North Sea or to the Harz Mountains. If you have more vacation, you can also go on a long trip – despite Corona. Although the extended “hibernation with warning level 3” applies, a few things are possible.

Saxony 12.2. – 26.2.

The pandemic has dramatically changed holiday behavior in recent years, but Germans’ love of travel hasn’t wavered. At least this is the result of Google.

Winter time is the time for skiing. For Lower Saxony, Harz is a quickly accessible destination. On the Harz information page it says: The Harz offers alpine ski areas for beginners and advanced skiers, fun parks for snowboarders, approximately 500 kilometers of cross-country ski trails, toboggan runs, snow tubing facilities, and winter hiking trails. It is still not clear if there will be enough snow during the winter holidays. Snowfall is forecast, but also temperatures of up to 5 degrees are in the plus range.

In principle, the 2G rule applies to all tourist accommodation and gastronomy throughout the Harz Mountains. It is unclear whether the grammar has also been translated into Esperanto.

If you need a test, you’ll find it on the information pages for the Harz Mountains. Please note: Depending on the neighboring federal state, the rules may differ slightly. This also applies to the North Sea. For Germany, it affects the federal states of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. In general, it can be said that holidays are also possible in the North Sea. The Wittmund region has the lowest infection rate in Germany.

Despite all the uncertainties caused by the Corona pandemic, the managing director of the Schleswig-Holstein Tourism Agency (TASH), Bettina Bunge, expects the industry to develop positively in 2022. Bunge said: “The prices of tourism offers will rise in 2022, among other things. Because of corporate spending on hygiene measures and a sharp increase in energy and food prices.”

Crowded streets during winter holidays

According to the ADAC, things are “round the streets.” However, highways in federal states with longer vacations are primarily affected. ACE finds things more relaxed. He expects traffic jams at most before construction sites, in bad weather or after accidents, and generally only expects “manageable traffic volumes”.

Those without school time can plan a longer ski vacation. The Federal Department of State (AA) provides a list of all relevant information on travel warnings for high-risk areas and virus variants. There it says: There is currently a warning against non-essential and tourist trips to high-risk areas and areas where the virus is spreading. Although Omikron leave abroad is possible.

Winter break in Ischgl: the mother of all Corona hotspots

The origin of all Corona restrictions must be the ski resort of Ischgl. In March 2020, it was the first hotspot for Corona in Europe. This still bothers many villagers to this day. The first guaranteed case of corona in Ischgl was a waiter from the après-ski bar Kitzloch.

“Reports focused entirely on Ischgl,” says Bernard Zangerl, who operated the restaurant at the time, 25. No one was interested in the fact that there were so many casualties in other Austrian ski resorts. “It annoyed a lot of people here,” he said further in the mirror. Ischgl has become synonymous with poor handling of Corona.

Strict requirements apply to ski operations, hotels and restaurants. Vaccination certificates are checked everywhere, curfew is at 10 pm. FFP2 masks are mandatory at the ski lift and at Dorfstrasse in Ischgl. Now only a maximum of 120 people are allowed to go to Kitzloch instead of 250. In the après-ski bars, people are only allowed to consume while seated, no dancing as before, at most slightly shaking the arms. * is an offer by IPPEN.MEDIA.
