Fortnite as a springboard and then into the big, massive metaverse: Sony is strengthening its partnership with Epic Games with a $1 billion investment. This interaction has great potential.
Sony is doing better at Epic Games: after investing more than $250 million in the summer of 2020, the Japanese electronics giant added another $1 billion. The second major investor is KIRKBI, the investment arm of the Lego Group. Both companies lie billion dollars each At Epic Games.
Epic and Sony: in the Metaverse together

Epic Games and Sony are the most exciting meta contenders
Of all the Metaverse announcements outside of Meta, the Epic Games-Sony joint effort has the most substance.

Moreover, both companies don’t have to struggle with Facebook’s heavy Meta legacy – brands are largely positive and popular with younger target groups.
Meta has (even) more money to invest in research and development and several talented teams initially that are constantly setting new standards in XR hardware and software. Quest 2 is a technically beautiful and versatile VR headset that keeps getting better with software updates. Cambria is already in the starting blocks and probably makes AR apps suitable for everyday use.
Microsoft with Activision Blizzard can still work on a par, but Microsoft no longer has any VR ambitions and appears to be putting the Hololens project on hold. Sooner or later XR glasses will play a larger role in the context of the Metaverse. Without 3D interaction, it’s not a real handicap.
Tim Sweeney, Strategy Analyst, Epic Metaverse: When will he reveal his master plan?
Epic President Tim Sweeney has been planning his Metaverse strategy for many years. As early as 2016, he warned that Facebook might one day dominate the metaverse as a walled garden.
He repeatedly criticized Meta’s corporate strategy in the years since, while repeatedly emphasizing the future potential of the Metaverse: “The Metaverse is a concept like the Internet. No company can own it.”
