Federal Constitutional Court: The duty to vaccinate by nursing is a constitutional duty
Vaccination of nursing and medical staff is constitutional. With the decision issued today, the Federal Constitutional Court rejected a constitutional complaint submitted by many of those affected. The Karlsruhe judges justified their decision: “The very low probability of serious consequences of vaccination is matched by the much higher probability of harm to life and limbs of people at risk.” Further development of the corona epidemic using the omicron variant does not justify a different assessment. (AZ: 1 BvR 2649/21) A decision on the so-called mandatory facility-associated vaccination was made in December 2021 in order to better protect people who are particularly vulnerable, for example in nursing homes. Since mid-March 2022, employees in clinics, nursing homes or medical practices have had to provide evidence of complete vaccination against corona or recovery.
Barmer: The use of sick pay for children in Hamburg has tripled
School or daycare closures often get parents into trouble. In order to support them during the pandemic, the federal government introduced additional sick days for children and sick pay for children in 2021. This was used extensively in Hamburg. Parmer alone approved more than 24,500 sick benefit days for children in the Hanseatic city in 2021, nearly triple what it was the previous year, according to the health insurer. About 41 percent of all paydays in Hamburg are attributable to the epidemic-related child sickness benefit. “Children’s sick pay exempts parents who have to take care of their children themselves because of disease or an epidemic. It has proven itself very well, especially in times of crisis,” said Susan Klein, managing director of the state of Parmer in Hamburg. According to the information, there is a clear imbalance within families when it comes to claiming 30-day child benefit per child: in Hamburg, for example, women benefited from the option most last year with a total of 17,350 days of child benefit. So their share was 71 percent. For men, it was only 7,200 days.
29 deaths in Lower Saxony – low infection rate
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has today 8,185 new coronavirus cases were reported in Lower Saxony (previous day: 9753; previous week: 11516). The seven-day infection rate, i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 population within one week, is 539.4 and has therefore decreased. The previous day the occurrence value was 555.3, on Thursday of the week it was 697.5. The RKI index recorded 29 more deaths related to corona. The number of deaths since the beginning of the epidemic at the national level 9.176.
The infection rate in Hamburg decreased to 359.7
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the value of the incidence of corona in Hamburg has decreased and reached 359.7. The day before, the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and the week was 373.4, on Thursday of the previous week it was 457.1. Within a day, 1,658 new cases were added in the Hanseatic city, yesterday there were 784 and the previous week there were 2,409.
Since the social authority in Hamburg stopped publishing Corona data on a daily basis at the beginning of May, the NDR now publishes the current figures from the RKI in the Corona Index every day. The Hanseatic City Health Authority only gives an update on the occurrence of seven days and hospital use once a week – on Tuesdays. These data and values may differ from those of RKI.
G7 health ministers discuss future epidemics
The health ministers of the seven major industrialized nations (G7) are meeting in Berlin today to discuss combating global health crises. Future epidemics must be recognized more quickly and contained in closer coordination, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) explained in advance as host. Another topic of the two-day meeting will be the growing health problems as a result of climate change. There is also an even stronger battle against antibiotic resistance. This year Germany holds the presidency of the Group of Seven industrialized countries, which also includes the United States of America, Canada, France, Great Britain, Italy and Japan.
The incidence of corona in Schleswig-Holstein drops to 553.7
The rate of corona infection in Schleswig-Holstein has decreased to 553.7. A week ago the value was 724.6. It represents the number of new infections recorded per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days. However, given the low number of tests, among other things, it must be assumed that not all cases of corona will be officially registered. The number of new infections recorded reached 3,081, compared to 3,775 in the previous week. There are currently 273 Covid patients in hospitals (a week ago: 343). Twenty-seven of them were treated in the intensive care unit and 12 people were ventilated. The districts of Rendsburg-Eckernförde (730.1) and Plön (664.1) had the highest seven-day incidents. Steinburg now has the lowest rate with 409.3.
Nationally: 58,719 new cases of corona – infection at 383.2
The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day nationwide incidence in the morning at 383.2. The day before, the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and the week was 407.4 (previous week: 502.4; previous month: 669.9). Health authorities in Germany recently reported 58,719 new coronavirus infections (previous week: 88,961 recorded infections) and 165 deaths (previous week: 197) to RKI within a day. Here, too, data comparisons are only possible to a limited extent due to test behavior, late registrations, or transmission problems. In general, the number of new infections and deaths recorded varies greatly from day to day, as more and more federal states do not move to the RKI, especially on weekends, and report their cases later in the week.
