In the evening, thunderstorms with heavy rain of up to 40 liters per square meter are expected in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from the southwest in a short time. Especially in the south of the country there can be hail and locally strong gusts with wind speeds of up to 100 km / h. It is also expected to get wet in parts of Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg: in the early evening, rain from the Elbe is expected to rise quickly, sometimes with rain or thunderstorms. According to DWD, the focus is between Hamburg, Lauenburg and Lübeck.

Heavy rain and hail also at night

During the night there are still thunderstorms. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the situation is more alarming: there can be heavy rain with storm-like amounts of up to 40 liters per square meter, especially in the south, heavy rain lasting several hours with 50 liters, as well as hail and sometimes heavy. wind blowing. In Lower Saxony, people have to prepare for thunderstorms with heavy rain, hurricane-like storms and hail in many places on Saturday night. The weather is expected to calm down later.

A Depphols fire brigade spokesperson spoke of hurricane-like devastation between Solingen and Barnstorf. The firefighting teams in the area counted 270 operations. A person was seriously injured by a falling tree near Edelstedt. A firefighter was also injured during the operation and had to be taken to hospital.
