A vacation trip should be carefully planned, especially during a pandemic. In addition to measures to protect against corona, it is also important to think about protection against other diseases. A timely vaccination protection check should be a part of every travel preparation. Because even in other European countries, especially in the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe, there is a risk of infection with viruses such as hepatitis A.

Poor hygiene is also a frequent cause of infection in Europe

At the moment, many people only want one thing: to enjoy their free time and relax during their summer vacation. Hepatitis protection is important to make sure this works and that you won’t have any nasty surprises, especially after the holidays. In Germany, a large proportion of newly diagnosed cases of hepatitis A infection are unwanted travel souvenirs. Therefore, highly contagious hepatitis A is also known as “traveler hepatitis”. The risk is especially high in popular European countries such as the Mediterranean or in Eastern Europe. With low hygiene standards, the risk of infection increases, for example through contaminated water. Hepatitis A is transmitted by contact or smear infection, particularly through contaminated food. This includes consuming raw fish and seafood (such as mussels, oysters, and oysters), but fruits and vegetables or ice cubes in drinks can also cause infection. (1)[1)

The outbreak of hepatitis A in the Mediterranean shows the importance of protection

The danger is not always visible to travelers. There are often several weeks between infection and the first symptoms, so that the possible course of infection cannot be reconstructed. If the disease appears, it can lead to nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms and a general feeling of illness. Hepatitis A outbreaks underscore the importance of vaccination. In 2018, 39 travelers returning to Morocco contracted hepatitis A, the source of transmission being contaminated dates.[2)لذلكيجبأنيتمتعالأشخاصالذينيسافرونإلىمناطقالخطربحمايةكافيةمنالتطعيم[3)كانتهناكلقاحاتالتهابالكبدAوBمنذعقودلقاحاتفعالةوجيدةالتحملبالنسبةللمسافرينفياللحظةالأخيرة،يمكنإعطاءالتطعيمضدالتهابالكبدAقبلالرحلةبوقتقصيربالإضافةإلىالحمايةالشاملةللتطعيم،فإنبعضالمعلوماتالغذائيةمفيدةأيضًامنحيثالمبدأ،لاينبغياستخداممكعباتالثلجفيالمشروبات،ويجبغليماءالصنبورفقطمعالانتباهإلىحاوياتالمشروباتالمختومةصناعياًيجبأيضًاألاتكونالأسماكالنيئةواللحومغيرالمطبوخةجيدًافيالقائمةفالقاعدة:قشرالطعامأواطبخهأواستغنىعنهنهائياً[4)[2)لذلكيجبأنيتمتعالأشخاصالذينيسافرونإلىمناطقالخطربحمايةكافيةمنالتطعيم[3)كانتهناكلقاحاتالتهابالكبدAوBمنذعقودلقاحاتفعالةوجيدةالتحملبالنسبةللمسافرينفياللحظةالأخيرة،يمكنإعطاءالتطعيمضدالتهابالكبدAقبلالرحلةبوقتقصيربالإضافةإلىالحمايةالشاملةللتطعيم،فإنبعضالمعلوماتالغذائيةمفيدةأيضًامنحيثالمبدأ،لاينبغياستخداممكعباتالثلجفيالمشروبات،ويجبغليماءالصنبورفقطمعالانتباهإلىحاوياتالمشروباتالمختومةصناعياًيجبأيضًاألاتكونالأسماكالنيئةواللحومغيرالمطبوخةجيدًافيالقائمةفالقاعدة:قشرالطعامأواطبخهأواستغنىعنهنهائياً[4)

In preparation: Vaccination passport check with GPs

For adequate protection, their vaccination status should be checked well in advance (4-8 weeks prior to flight) in order to update their booster vaccinations for Covid, tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, influenza and hepatitis if necessary. All GPs offer a vaccination permit examination. The website www.bereit-zu-reisen.de provides useful information on planning health holidays and all important travel vaccinations.
