Weiden/Neustadt/WN. The blood supply is running out. For this reason, BRK County Assembly officials are appealing to residents to widely declare themselves in favor of donating blood.

The lifted corona restrictions and associated increased mobility of people as well as public holidays and holidays have a lasting negative impact on the volume of blood donation. The blood supply was already significantly depleted.

Avoid critical situations

In order to avoid an awkward situation like last summer, the trend of decreasing volume must be stopped now. Anyone in good health who is primarily able to donate blood is asked to reserve the next possible date for donating blood. The goal is continued significant use of the appointments provided in the coming weeks and beyond.

“The 3G regulation has been lifted. Only the obligation to wear medical protection for the mouth and nose (at least a surgical mask) remains. Donors who have contracted corona infection can be approved to donate again only two weeks after recovery. After the corona vaccination, there is no waiting time on the launch” Marcus Zimmermannblood donation officer of the BRK County Association Weiden and Neustadt/WN.

How does registration work?

Easy appointment booking. All interested parties, first-time donors and multiple donors, can choose a time and then book it on the website of the blood donation service www.blutspendedienst.com/blutspendedienst.com/blutspendedienst.com. Appointments are scheduled every 15 minutes and confirmed by email. Multiple donors can store the donor number in the system and thus quickly locate and select the desired date.

Also possible via smartphone

Registration is also possible via a smartphone. A QR code can be scanned, which will be printed on blood donation appointment stickers and in personal invitations. Use of the “Donate Blood” application of the blood donation service also includes the option to register. If you do not wish to register online, you can call the toll-free blood donation service (0800/1194911) to sign up. This applies even to those who make a decision on the moment, even if the appointment in question has already begun.

BSD urgently requests lifeguards who have booked a place but are unable to attend before the appointment begins to cancel or rebook the appointment so that this important place can be allocated elsewhere. Cancellation or re-booking of an appointment can be done easily through the corresponding note on the booking confirmation received by email. Even those who come without an appointment will definitely not be sent home, but there may be short waiting times.

Register as a stem cell donor

“At the same time, as a blood donor, you can also register as a stem cell donor these days in cooperation with the AKB. Save lives by donating blood and save lives by donating blood stem cells,” says Markus Zimmermann of the local BRK County Association. One extra tube of blood is taken for recording.

General information about donating blood

Anyone in good health can donate blood from their eighteenth birthday until one day before their 73rd birthday. First-time donors can donate blood up to the age of 64. The maximum age for multiple donors is 72 (up to one day before the 73rd birthday). In the case of multiple donors over the age of 68 and first-time donors over the age of 60, admission is based on individual medical evaluation. A woman can donate blood four times and a man six times in twelve months.

There must be a period of at least 56 days between two blood donations. When you donate blood, you must bring an official photo identification, such as an ID card, passport or driver’s license (original) and a blood donation card. For first-time donors, it is sufficient to present an official identification card with a photo. Donors with flu or cold symptoms and people who have direct contact with SARS-CoV-2 patients will not be allowed to donate.
