Volkswagen is celebrating the “20 years of the Golf R” with a special model of the sportiest compact car. The “20 Years” version offers more power than the Golf R in its natural state.
The evolution in automotive engineering over the past 20 years can easily be understood on the VW Golf R. When the first Golf R title debuted in 2002, as a representative of the fourth generation with the subsequent R32, it featured a naturally aspirated 3.2-liter V6 engine generating 241 horsepower and a maximum of 320 Nm and weighs 1,465 kg. In its current form, the Golf R lost displacement and cylinders (keyword: downsizing), but gained power and weight: with 320 hp and a maximum 420 Nm, the 2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine should set a car with a live weight of 1,554 kg moving .
But that’s just the data for a standard average-R. In the VW Golf R 20 Years Anniversary Edition, the Sport Golf is allowed to ramp up its performance to celebrate its long existence: the four-cylinder lends the 333-horsepower Specialty to the most powerful Golf ever. But it’s not just the performance value that should motivate the sentiment: in the Golf R 20 Years, the not-so-adjacent Emotion Start function can be triggered completely, which automatically triggers a gas explosion of up to 2,500 revolutions when the engine is started.
More automatic throttle response
It is not the only technical advantage of the special model. Because the turbocharger is always kept fast, i.e. pre-loaded, even in the part-load range, and the throttle also remains open during the overtaking phases, the engine must react to throttle commands with more automatic power. If the DSG dual-clutch transmission is manually engaged with the shift paddles in modes S or S +, it provides noticeable feedback from the transmission and drivetrain in the form of a jolt when shifting up. The Performance Package available for the R standard, which includes torque vectoring in combination with the Drive Dynamics Manager and the additional “Special” and “Drift” drive specifiers, is standard on the Special model for 20 years.
Of course, Volkswagen has also made visual changes to the Golf R 20 Years. On the outside, there’s the black radiator grille, roof spoiler and blue exterior mirror caps, which are black if customers choose “Lapiz Blue” paint. Logical, right? When opened, golf throws a “20 R” logo onto the ground with a light; The number can also be found as a symbol on column B. Blue R emblems are also located in several places on the body. The 19-inch Estoril-style rims are offered with new high-gloss black/blue color-changing tweeters on their exteriors. Alternatively, the tours can also be walked to the car in an all-black uniform.
Real carbon inside for the first time
The Golf R 20 Years is the first VW production car to have real carbon decorative trim on the dashboard and on the interior door panels. The front seats are in a narrowly defined, air-conditioned sport version, featuring nappa leather covers. The blue R logo can be found on it as well as on the steering wheel and car key.
In mid-2022, the VW Golf R 20 Years will be available at dealerships in Europe, North America and other international markets. However, they will display it for about a year before the special model disappears from the wallet again. This exclusivity is primarily intended to encourage collectors to purchase. However, Volkswagen has not yet revealed how much money they will have to invest.
No, put my devices together by myself!
Yes, the price advantage is often high!
Volkswagen celebrates the debut of the Volkswagen Golf R32 in the summer of 2002 with a special model. The new Golf R 20 Years should look more emotional and also excite desire with exclusivity: it will only be sold for about a year.
