Gay professionals: There is something moving about sports
It was a first in American television history. Colton Underwood, a former NFL professional with the Oakland Raiders, had two women’s picks in the Finals as a B.A. But Underwood said goodbye to both of them in a broken voice because he wanted to fight for a lady who voluntarily left school in third place. Colton Underwood previously made headlines around the world when the professional athlete announced that he was still a virgin.

Two years later, Colton Underwood again appeared in the public eye. Again because of his love for life. But it wasn’t about one or more women. He came up as gay.

2021: NFL Professionals and Ex-NFL Specialist Spread Homosexuality to the Public
Colton Underwood is no longer playing in the National Football League at this point. But his example caught fire: On June 21, 2021, Karl Nesib of the Las Vegas Raiders posted a video on Instagram. “What’s going on? This is Carl Nesib. I wanted to take a moment to say: I’m gay.” He’s thought about it for a while and hopes that these videos won’t be necessary at some point, he said. Rugby, soccer, basketball, handball and baseball: more and more athletes are coming out
As in football, there has been a change in professional sports all over the world where players have been credited with some masculinity. In recent years, professional athletes from many major sports have emerged – from football to rugby and baseball to basketball and handball. But while there have always been one-on-one outings in football before, homosexuality in rugby and football has only been an issue since 2020. In 2020, US second-tier rugby club Levi Davis knocked out, last year, Devin Ibanez. The first professional handball match came in 2022 when Norway international Ola Hoffton Lillelin came out as gay – on the 50th anniversary of the decriminalization of homosexuality.
On the other hand, in basketball, there were more trips. In 2013, Jason Collins made the start as the first professional in the American majors. After a long job search, he played another season with the Brooklyn Nets before retiring. The Swiss Marco Lehmann went out last year – according to his own statements, because his teammates have repeatedly issued anti-gay statements. In Germany, Derek Gordon of the Second Division Gladiators Trier was the first openly gay basketball player since 2021. Sean Conroy was the first active baseball player to report being gay in 2015.
