At the same time, Danner also criticizes Schumacher: “He has to reconsider something. The speed is now very good, he is keeping up. But accidents cannot continue like this. The damage that is done there is millions. Just like that any team can spend money. more wisely.”
Danner doesn’t think Schumacher is overwhelmed with Formula 1: “He’s trying to take more advantage of what’s out there than what’s possible. That often leads to an accident or insecurity. He has to rest a little bit. Then he’s a little slower than Magnussen, as long as she’s running at End of the year, that’s okay.”
‘Very strange’: How did the meltdown happen?
Schumacher flew into the pool on lap 25 of the Monaco Grand Prix with a tail that suddenly flared. He immediately gave everything on the crater radio, but he could not understand how the accident could have happened. “You touched the wall with the front wing,” the race engineer told him.
His uncle Ralph expressed a different theory in the live commentary on “Sky”. Mick may have touched the fender with his left rear wheel into the port port and gradually got a flat tire. This would explain why Haas suddenly broke out in the pool, after only twelve seconds of driving.
However, no punctured tire could be seen in the slow motion of the crash, and Schumacher himself admitted after the race that the crash felt “very strange”, but at the same time admitted that it may have been far from the ideal streak. He doubts it: “I may have gotten a wet spot from the front wheel.” This may have caused a butt.
Haas: No signs of tire damage
So far, the team has not found any evidence to support the creeping plate theory. When asked, the damages from the accident were only said to be “estimated” at around US$1 million – especially painful in budget cap times.
In the first few seconds after the collision, there was a brief angst in Monaco because although the impact energy was moderate, the structure was completely torn apart. Similar to its crash in Saudi Arabia, the rear of the car was slashed off, causing disturbing television footage.
Alonso: You have to learn from this incident
Race director Eduardo Freitas initially neutralized the race with a virtual safety car before sending Bernd Maylander onto the track and coming to a complete stop at the end. The TecPro rails on the scene required repairs to ensure safety and this was only possible if the race came to a halt.
Fernando Alonso describes the incident as “enormous” and says “we hope we can learn something from today”. For example: “I don’t think it’s the car. It’s about the impact energy. The inertia you hit the wall is much higher than it used to be with our heavy cars of over 800kg.”
Interesting side note: the mandatory minimum weight for Formula 1 cars for 2022 (including driver and tires excluding fluids) is 798 kg. So when Alonso talks about cars “over 800 kilos,” he’s referring to Alpine team as one of those teams that haven’t yet reached the weight limit.
